Coding is a fundamental skill for the future. Students from a very young age have access to smart phones, tablets, and laptops are playing video games and communicating with family using electronics. Block-based programming languages such as MIT Scratch and Scratch Jr. have been developed to help kids get started with coding right from PreK onwards. By the time a child is in Grade 3 or 4, most kids have gained experience with block-based programming and are able to build their own programs. This track provides a structured approach to coding for kids between the ages of 5 to 7 and teaches them basic programming skills. This track also provides a unique art experience by teaching kids abstract thinking, applying geometry of basic shapes to create free-hand drawing, and teaches them coloring concepts as well. The combination of coding skills with art and design skills form a great foundation for exploring other STEM fields and additional programming in later grades. This is a great track for young students to take that initial step into coding and STEM.
